My name is Alasdair Broun and I was born and brought up in Scotland, son of a clergyman and a freelance journalist. I took up genealogy as a hobby when I was 17 and I went on to write a PhD thesis in philosophical psychology, interestingly on the philosophical implications of the perennial question "who am I?" - which was the reason why I became interested in genealogy in the first place. There are many intriguing philosophical answers to this question which go beyond genealogy.
I live on the Isle of Skye with my wife. I work in Broadford - the picture above shows my office which is behind the Woodrising Photographic Gallery. My wife is also a keen photographer and you can view some of her photographs here. I have a brother who lives in Lanarkshire, a sister living in Galloway, and my parents live in Ross-shire. As I believe my father's ancestry to be exceptionally interesting, I have mainly concentrated on that particular line.
For a number of years I have pursued web development as a career, specialising in the design, provision, promotion and improvement of websites. Although most of my clients are on the Isle of Skye - hotels, bed & breakfasts, and other local businesses, I do provide services to clients in a wider geographical area.
